My Story

Dr. Ravindra Kumar Tyagi

I was born in a Tyagi Brahmin family in the year 1955 (Saharanpur U.P.) with major occupation as agriculture.

IIT Roorkee shaped me for Four Years (1971-75) to emerge as a responsible citizen and confident engineering professional in Electronics & Telecommunication.

My career began at ONGC in the year 1976 where I learned and contributed in the field of Seismics, well logging, instrumentation, satellite communication, Infocom, corporate marketing and ultimately as Head Air logistics (overall 31 Years).

Pawan Hans gave me the wings and an opportunity to apply my leadership skills learned during earlier career and also during my days at Indian School of Business, Hyderabad. My innings at Pawan Hans as CMD (2007-2012) is full of growth, performance and organisational development.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (2012-2015) enabled me to directly contribute to defence security of India. I had a great satisfaction in converting HAL into a technology company with thousand plus Intellectual Property Rights and aggressive R&D investments.

As Independent director, Air India (2017-2020), I drive satisfaction for my contributions in HR, Financial, Audits and safety ambience of AI.

My life till now is a story of growth and contributions to the society and organisations spread all over India – Dehradun/Noida, North-east/Assam, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka. Now I make positive contributions to the society and enabling transformational leadership towards better India thru NGOs, Educational institutions and think tanks like FAST, CIP and SAMDeS etc.

• B.Engg. (Electronics & Communication) – 1975: Indian Institute of Technology (I.I.T.) Roorkee – also a distinguished alumni (year 2010).
• MBA (Marketing) – IGNOU, New Delhi.
• Advanced Leadership Program – 2005: Indian School of Business (I.S.B.), Hyderabad.
• Ph.D (Doctorate in Management Studies) - Agra University, U.P.

• Chairman, Board of Governors of Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) Jaipur and NIT, Uttarakhand from Aug 2020 to Aug 2023
• Independent Director on Board of Air India and head of Board Sub-Committee on operational safety, NRC and HRD (2017-2020).
• President, Aeronautical Society of India (2018-2020)
• Chairman, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (a Navratna company) from March 2012 to Jan 2015
• CMD, Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. (a Mini Navratna company) from May 2007 to Mar 2012.
• Served ONGC in various fields like IT Networks, Setcom, Infocom, Marketing and rose to the position of Head Marketing and Head Air Logistics (from April, 1976 to May 2007)
